Founded in 1967, Integra is Ontario's only mental health centre devoted to the psychosocial needs of children and youth with learning disabilities (LD). We provide a range of counseling services for children and youth between the ages of 8-18 with LD and their families. Individual, group and family counseling is offered, as well as parent support groups.
Community Consultation
Integra strives to raise community awareness about LD. We offer training and clinical consultation on learning disabilities to professionals in social services, health and education. Our workshops, including Walk a Mile in My Shoes, demonstrate the experience of having a learning disability. Family members and professionals are encouraged to attend.
Admittance
Our counseling services are offered to residents of Toronto upon completion of psychological assessments. Unfortunately, the huge demand for our services outweighs our capacity and therefore clients are placed on a waiting list. While on the waiting list, children and their families are encouraged to take part in workshops, parents support groups, and Camp Towhee. Fees are limited to Camp Towhee and some workshops, however subsidies are available to low-income families.
Camp Towhee
For two 3-week sessions each year, Camp Towhee extends its arms to provide a place for children and youth with LD to learn, grow and be themselves. With many exciting activities including our Music Therapy and Adventure Therapy programs, Towhee campers build self-esteem and motivation.
Students
Integra is a teaching facility and we value the contribution that students make to our service. All students are taking part in advanced university programs. Qualified Integra staff supervise their work.
