Invest Now. Save a Future. (2006)

November 2006

Our Invest Now. Save a Future. breakfast event in November 2006 was a great success. With the generous support of our sponsors and guests, we raised over $100,000 to support Integra's clinical activities. Special thanks go to our presenting sponsor, Scotia Capital.

Margaret MacMillan, our keynote speaker, delivered a most compelling and engaging address as she spoke of the many nuances of the moments in history that lead to Richard Nixon’s monumental trip to China. It was a riveting morning, transforming every audience member into a keen historian.

Another speaker that morning was one of our parents whose son has now ‘graduated’ from Integra. She expressed our mission very eloquently:

“I asked my son this morning what it was like to have a learning disability and he said, ‘Mom it’s not a disability. I just see the world in a different way.’

“Integra really looks at the wholeness of a child with a learning disability, a child who might be dealing with much more than just difficulty with math, reading or organization. There are often social and emotional issues that go along with these challenges and this is where Integra makes a difference. Children and youth leave Integra armed with the skills to self-advocate, to resolve conflict and to embrace their strengths and their talents.

“A Korean proverb suggests that the two greatest gifts we can give our children are roots and wings. Integra gives our children a foundation of skills and confidence to know that their learning differences are just that, differences not disabilities. These children have the potential within themselves to be our future leaders and creators and Integra helps them with this.”
